ViewThru: Peer Behind Your Foreground Window
09.24.09 Download Now: ViewThruSetup.zip by Tim Smith I find that I never have enough desktop real estate. Even though I have a decent-sized widescreen monitor, windows are always piled on top of each other. Often I'll be composing an email or filling out an Excel spreadsheet and need to see something on another app. However, I don't want to alternate between the two because it can take too long to switch there and back. I simply want to make the foreground window transparent. This month's utility, ViewThru, allows the user to assign a global hotkey that makes the foreground window become transparent, allowing you to easily see what's behind it. …more… Version: 1.0Released: September 24, 2009Supported Platforms: Windows XP & Vista(32 & 64) Total posts: 3

10 things I can never remember how to do in Excel Date: December 2nd, 2009 Author: Jody Gilbert Category: 10 things, Support If your Excel skills are perennially rusty, this cheat sheet will help you knock out basic tasks without forcing you to scramble back up the learning curve. Like a lot of business software users, I’m a generalist. On any given day, my job may require a little number crunching and word processing, and maybe some page layout, slide show creation, or report building. For the most part, the various Office apps make it easy to meet these needs. But certain tasks just don’t come up often enough for me to keep them in my head. (Yes, I’m blaming the tasks here.) Excel is a good example. I use it every day, but I seldom need to do more than enter data or a simple formula. So when a job requires something a little more sophisticated, I waste a certain amount of time trying to remember how I got it to work before. Then I waste even…more…

Get a Year of Carbonite Online Backup for $27.47 Rick Broida Dec 11, 2009 2:40 pm I'm a big believer in making online backups to complement my local backup solutions. That way, heaven forbid there's a fire or something, my data will live on in the cloud. Alas, I've always been a little too cheap to pony up the $50-60 annual fee for a service like Carbonite or Mozy. But $27.47? That I can swing. From now until December 31, you can save 50 percent on Carbonite's subscription plans. That means you can get one year for $27.47, two years for $49.97, or three years for $64.97 (definitely the best deal). To take advantage of the offer, just sign up for a new account and use coupon code CUST50.

Electronics supply chain, heal thyself: How industry leaders inadvertently enable the counterfeit parts market By John P Brown, Vertical -- Electronic Business, 10/20/2009 Though they bear the brunt of the pain of counterfeit electronic components in the supply chain, industry leaders regularly engage in activity that not only exposes them to the risk of getting stung, but enables the counterfeiters to thrive. Some of these activities are central to their business strategy, but many are not. Companies throughout the electronics supply chain need to be aware of how their actions affect the flow of counterfeit parts and decide if the risk is worth it. Despite their very best efforts, secondary market players themselves face the daunting challenge of increasingly sophisticated fakes. While most independents and brokers strive to protect their customers, the bad apples amongst them exploit the lack of transparency in the grey market and insert fake parts into the supply chain. The players in the primary market and their powerful suite of software tools create a secure flow of components that is transparent, traceable and marked by accountability. It is when companies deviate from these direct connections that they get into trouble. Below is just a partial list of how companies create the conditions that criminals exploit.
